ESI launches SPREE scheme: One time ESI Registration Amnesty Scheme

ESI has launched SPREE scheme viz Scheme to Promote Registration of Employers and Employees. The amnesty scheme allows the eligible employers to enroll their establishments in the ESI scheme without any botheration about the backlog / retrospective coverage.  Please find below the salient features of the scheme

  • Period :The scheme will be valid for all ESI registrations from the period 01 July 2025 to 31 Dec 2025
  • Benefit to the Employers :The employer to whom the scheme applies but hasn’t registered itself yet, is eligible for registration wef the date mentioned in the registration application. The said employer will be deemed to be covered wef that date without any botheration of retrospective coverage and punitive action. In other words, the backlog period of non-compliance, if any will be ignored
  • Exception However, the employer who are already undergoing any verification or inquiry by the ESI Corporation will not be eligible to take the benefit of the above scheme
  • PayRule Note for Clients
    • The scheme enables one time registration window for establishments who have not yet registered, but liable for registration. However, if you are already registered under ESI, then you may ignore the updateThe clients may consider registering sister concerns / any group company which is liable for registration but not yet registered.

  • A Note Applicability of ESI to establishments / employers As per the provisions of ESI Act, Sec 1(4) and 1(5), every employer employing 10 or more workers (directly or through contractors) in its establishment is liable for ESI registration and compliance. In the state of Maharashtra, barring Hospitals and Educational Institutions, all other types of establishments are liable for ESI coverage and compliance. Further once an establishment is registered under ESI, the registration cannot be cancelled even if employee count goes below 10.
